The PEP team brings considerable skills and experience to transactions:

Comprehensive industry experience, multiple geographies

The team is drawn from multiple geographic backgrounds and has senior management experience in US, Europe, Africa and Asia. The team is able to conduct business in more than 10 languages. 

Investment experience

PEP Fund I was the first LBO fund to be established in Australia and New Zealand. PEP now has over 15 years experience in the sector. PEP has been the most active Australia/New Zealand player by a factor of two.

General management and operational experience

The PEP team has deep professional and operational experience. Individual members have more than 30 years of working with management to optimise the performance of companies, including strategy and operations, capital raising and deal structuring - both domestically and internationally.

 

Enduring relationships with senior business professionals

Many years of experience in the private equity industry and prior to that in senior advisory roles have led to established relationships with boards, chief executives and senior management of most of the significant companies in Australia and New Zealand and many private entrepreneurs.

 

Cameron Blanks

Managing Director

Cameron joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2002. Prior to joining PEP, Cameron spent three years with Bain & Company in Australia and North America. Previously, Cameron worked for seven years in the mining and construction industry in Australia, Asia and North America. He received an MBA from MIT Sloan, and a MEng and BEng (First Class Honours) from the University of South Australia where he was a Graduate Society Scholar.

Andrew Charlier

Director

Andrew joined PEP in 2007. Prior to joining PEP, he was a Consultant with Bain & Company in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. He received a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the University of New South Wales and the Dean's Medal. He also has an MBA from INSEAD.

David Brown

Managing Director

David joined Pacific Equity Partners at the start of 2004. Prior to joining PEP, he spent his analyst years in the Investment Banking Division of JP Morgan. David received a PLD from Harvard Business School and first class honours degrees (BCom and LLB) from the University of Queensland where he was awarded a University Medal.

Tony Duthie

Managing Director

Tony joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2006. Before joining PEP, Tony was a Partner of Bain & Company with over 12 years of consulting experience in Australia, Asia and Europe. Tony received an MBA from INSEAD (Dean's List) and a BCom from the University of New South Wales.

Carolyn Fox

Director - Investor Relations

Carolyn joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2006. Prior to joining PEP Carolyn was the COO of Zenith Media, the Media Agency within The Communications Group (formerly a PEP portfolio company), after starting her career at  Coopers and Lybrand in Australia and the UK. Carolyn has a Bachelor of Economics from Sydney University and a Graduate Diploma from the AGSM at the University of New South Wales. Carolyn is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Rickard Gardell

Managing Director

Rickard is a founder of PEP and a member of the firm's Operating Committee. Prior to founding PEP, Rickard was a Director of Bain & Company and had 14 years of consulting experience in Europe, Asia and Australasia. Rickard received a BSc from the Stockholm School of Economics where he was awarded Carl Liljevalchs Scholar and an IMP Scholar attending McGill University Graduate School of Management.

David Grayce

Managing Director

David is a Managing Director of PEP. He joined the firm in February 2007. Prior to joining PEP, David worked with Bain Capital based in Boston and focused on leveraged buyouts in North America and Europe. Prior to Bain Capital, David was with Bain & Company in the United States, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Australia. He has an LLB and BCom from the University of New South Wales and McGill University and an MBA from Stanford University.

Jake Haines

Managing Director

Jake originally joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2002, and rejoined the firm in 2008 having spent the previous three years in the United States. While based in New York, he was involved in establishing the US private equity group for Babcock & Brown. Prior to 2002, Jake was a consultant with Bain & Company based in Toronto. He received an HBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.

Evan Hattersley

Director

Evan joined PEP in 2007. Prior to joining PEP, Evan was a Consultant with Bain & Company in the UK, United States, Singapore and Australia. He received a Bachelor of Commerce & Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from the University of Queensland where he was a Valedictorian.

Geoff Hutchinson

Managing Director

Geoff joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2008. Prior to joining PEP, Geoff was a Manager at Bain & Company where he spent 10 years consulting to clients in Australia, UK and South Africa. Geoff received an MBA from INSEAD (Dean's List) and a BCom and BSc from the University of Melbourne.

Sam Kong

Managing Director & CFO

Prior to joining PEP in 1998, Sam was a senior accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he advised clients in the financial services, retail, shipping and manufacturing industries. Also, he was involved in several mergers and acquisitions in the Greater China region. Sam received a BEc from the University of Sydney and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, University of New South Wales. He is a Certified Practising Accountant.

Paul McCullagh

Managing Director

Paul is a founder of PEP and is a member of the firm's Operating Committee. Prior to founding PEP, Paul was a Managing Director of Salomon Brothers Australia. He has twenty years of investment banking experience in the US, Asia, and Australasia. Paul was also previously head of Australasia for Prudential Securities. Paul received a BCom and MBS from the University of Dublin and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Simon Pillar

Managing Director

Simon is a founder of PEP and chairs the firm's Operating Committee. Prior to founding PEP, Simon was a Partner with Bain & Company and worked as a strategy consultant in the US, Singapore and Sydney. He started his working life as an engineer with The Royal Dutch/Shell Group in The Netherlands. Simon received a first class degree (BSc (Eng) in Civil Engineering) from the University of Bristol where he received the Institution of Civil Engineers Award, and an MBA from the Wharton School where he was a Thouron Scholar.

Matt Robinson

Director

Matt joined PEP in 2009. Prior to joining PEP, he was a consultant with Bain & Company in Australia. Matt was an Innovation Scholar at Macquarie University where he received a Bachelor of Commerce (Actuarial Studies) and was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Commendation for Academic Excellence.

Tim Sims

Managing Director

Tim is a founder of PEP and is a member of the firm's Operating Committee. Prior to founding PEP, Tim was the Chairman and Managing Director of Bain & Company's Australasian and African operations and a member of Bain & Company's Global Executive Committee. Tim has also served on a number of government committees and led national strategy projects. Tim received an MA from Oxford University where he was a Mitsui European Scholar and an MPA from Harvard where he was a Kennedy Scholar.

Rohan Wolfers

Director

Rohan joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2010. Prior to joining PEP, Rohan was with Navis Capital Partners and Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity in Australia, Asia and North America. Rohan is studying towards a PLD at Harvard Business School and has a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney.

Shannon joined PEP in 2006. Prior to joining PEP, Shannon was with Bain & Company in Australia and SE Asia. Shannon was a University of Sydney Scholarship holder where he received a first class honours degree (BEcon) and the University Medal.
