PEP Fund I was the first LBO fund of its kind to be established and was a key part of establishing the supporting infrastructure and industry in Australia and New Zealand. Now with over 25 years experience in the sector.

Since joining in 2023, Aytan Ali has progressed from the role of receptionist to that of Executive Assistant at Pacific Equity Partners. Before this, Aytan gained experience across different roles in the dental, medical, and administrative fields in both Sydney and Adelaide.

Cassi joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2024. Prior to joining PEP, she worked at Macquarie Bank within their home lending and treasury teams. Cassi holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Professional Accounting and Chinese) from the University of Sydney.

Cameron joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2002. Prior to joining PEP, Cameron spent three years with Bain & Company in Australia and North America. Previously, Cameron worked for seven years in the mining and construction industry in Australia, Asia and North America. He received an MBA from MIT Sloan, and a MEng and BEng (First Class Honours) from the University of South Australia where he was a Graduate Society Scholar.

David joined Pacific Equity Partners at the start of 2004. Prior to joining PEP, he spent his analyst years in the Investment Banking Division of JP Morgan. David received a PLD from Harvard Business School and first class honours degrees (BCom and LLB) from the University of Queensland where he was awarded a University Medal.

Angie joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2023. Prior to joining the team, Angie worked for Antares Capital and GE Capital in the United States. Angie holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Washington in Seattle and a Master’s degree in Business Strategy and Management from Linköping University in Sweden.
Samantha Carberry

Samantha joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2016. Prior to joining PEP, she spent two years in the Investment Banking Division of Credit Suisse. Samantha also spent two years working at BGH Capital and three years at REA Group before rejoining PEP in 2022. She received a Bachelor of Commerce & Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Monash University, with Dean’s Commendations.

Paul joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2017. Prior to joining PEP Paul was Head of Infrastructure, Australia & New Zealand, at AMP Capital where he was responsible for leading the investment activities of the firm’s Australia and New Zealand infrastructure teams. Paul has 24 years of principal investment experience, spanning sectors including airports, toll roads, rail, energy utilities, water, health and education. Paul received a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Commerce (with merit) from the University of Wollongong.

Carolyn joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2006. Prior to joining PEP Carolyn was the COO of Zenith Media, the Media Agency within The Communications Group (formerly a PEP portfolio company), after starting her career at Coopers and Lybrand in Australia and the UK. Carolyn has a Bachelor of Economics from Sydney University and a Graduate Diploma from the AGSM at the University of New South Wales.

Rickard Gardell

Rickard is a founder of Pacific Equity Partners and a member of the firm’s Operating Committee. Prior to founding PEP, Rickard was a Director of Bain & Company and had 14 years of consulting experience in Europe, Asia and Australasia. Rickard received a Bachelor of Science from the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) (1981-84) where he was awarded Carl Liljevalchs Scholar and IMP Scholar. As IMP scholar, he attended the MBA program at McGill University for half of his last year.

Jake originally joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2002, and rejoined the firm in 2008 having spent the previous three years in the United States. While based in New York, he was involved in establishing the US private equity group for Babcock & Brown. Prior to 2002, Jake was a consultant with Bain & Company based in Toronto. He received an HBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.

Rosie joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2021. Before joining PEP, Rosie was a Senior Associate at Brookfield Asset Management where she was heavily involved in their Property Group’s ESG initiatives both as a founding member of the ESG Steering Committee and as a contact for their portfolio companies to build sustainable businesses and to integrate ESG initiatives into their investment theses. Prior to that, Rosie was an associate at MinterEllison’s Sydney Corporate M&A Group. Rosie received a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce from Monash University, completing a number finance and marketing subjects at Babson College, Massachusetts.

Tracy joined the Partner and Client Group (PCG) at Pacific Equity Partners in 2024. Prior to joining PEP, Tracy was the Head of Client Services for Invesco Australia and has held previous roles at NAB Asset Management, BlackRock (NYC) and Barclays Global Investors. Tracy holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance & Management) and a Graduate Certificate of Applied Finance.
Sam Kong

Prior to joining Pacific Equity Partners in 1998, Sam was a senior accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he advised clients in the financial services, retail, shipping and manufacturing industries. Also, he was involved in several mergers and acquisitions in the Greater China region. Sam received a BEc from the University of Sydney and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, University of New South Wales. He is a Certified Practising Accountant.

Paul McCullagh

Paul is a founder of Pacific Equity Partners and serves as an active Senior Advisor to the firm. Prior to founding PEP, Paul was a Managing Director of Salomon Brothers Australia. He has twenty years of investment banking experience in the US, Asia, and Australasia. Paul was also previously head of Australasia for Prudential Securities. Paul received a BCom and MBS from the University of Dublin and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Duncan joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2007. Prior to joining PEP, Duncan was a consultant with McKinsey & Company in New Zealand. In 2009, Duncan attended business school and spent the following four years with McKinsey & Company in the United States and Australia, before rejoining PEP in 2016. Duncan received an MBA with Honors from the Wharton School and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Auckland.

Alex joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2011. Alex was an investor in the Private Equity strategy for the first decade, after which he joined the Partner & Client Group. Before joining PEP, Alex was an investment banker with Morgan Stanley in London and prior to then, a management consultant with The Boston Consulting Group in Sydney. Alex received a PLD from Harvard Business School, a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Adelaide, where he was the Valedictorian.

Simon Pillar

Simon is a founder of Pacific Equity Partners and chairs the firm’s Operating Committee. Prior to founding PEP, Simon was a Partner with Bain & Company and worked as a strategy consultant in the US, Singapore and Sydney. He started his working life as an engineer with The Royal Dutch/Shell Group in The Netherlands. Simon received a first class degree (BSc (Eng) in Civil Engineering) from the University of Bristol where he received the Institution of Civil Engineers Award, and an MBA from the Wharton School where he was a Thouron Scholar.
Kate Pink

Kate joined PEP in 2023, prior to joining PEP Kate worked in the Corporate Finance Team at Ord Minnett for 5 years as Operations Manager. Most recently Kate was working in the Secretariat & Governance team at a leading listed financial services group (IAG), responsible for managing the Board of Directors and enterprise governance including public disclosures and investor events.
James Randall

James joined Pacific Equity Partners in 2017. Prior to joining PEP, he was a Consultant with L.E.K. Consulting in Australia and China. James holds a MBA (Hons) from The Wharton School where he was a Palmer Scholar; a MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania; and a BBus & LLB (Hons) from Bond University.

Tim is a founder of Pacific Equity Partners and is a member of the firm’s Operating Committee. Prior to founding PEP, Tim was the Chairman and Managing Director of Bain & Company’s Australasian and African operations and a member of Bain & Company’s Global Executive Committee. Tim has also served on a number of government committees and led national strategy projects. Tim received a BA/MA from Oxford University where he was a Mitsui European Scholar and an MPA from Harvard where he was a Kennedy Scholar. In 2019, Tim was made a member in the general division of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the community through philanthropic initiatives.
